SEEE LAB – Ibero-American Market Research “Mapping the Early Music Ecosystem in Ibero-America”

About S-EEEmerging

S-EEEmerging (S-EEE) is a large-scale European cooperation project supporting the emergence of new talent in early music. Building on the legacy of previous editions, S-EEE connects a strong European network to foster artistic development, innovation and long-term sustainability in the sector.

S-EEE places sustainability at the centre of its mission — promoting artistic careers that are viable, environmentally responsible and socially engaged. The programme supports emerging ensembles in developing skills, building international connections and creating projects that can grow over time.

How we understand sustainability in this LAB?

In this context, sustainability means:

  • Supporting realistic touring models for emerging ensembles.
  • Encouraging regional circulation instead of long-distance isolated travel.
  • Reducing environmental impact by exploring cluster-based touring routes.
  • Building long-term partnerships rather than one-off engagements.

Through this LAB, S-EEE aims to explore how connections with Ibero-America could:

  • Open new artistic and professional opportunities.
  • Strengthen exchange between regions.
  • Contribute to more environmentally responsible touring models.

What is the SEEE LAB Ibero-America?

The SEEE LAB Ibero-America is a small collaborative research group (3 participants) working remotely to better understand the early music ecosystem in Ibero-America.

The goal is simple and concrete:

  • Identify where early music is happening.
  • Understand which organisations are active.
  • Explore if future collaboration and sustainable touring circuits could be developed.

This is not an academic research project.
It is a practical and guided process, coordinated by the S-EEE team.

Participants will not work alone:

  • The coordination team provides tools, templates and guidance.
  • The group progresses step by step together.

Scope of the LAB (2026 Phase)

To keep the project realistic, the 2026 LAB will focus on:

  • Ecosystem pre-mapping
  • Launch of an online survey
  • First analysis of results

The objective is to produce a first mapping and dataset by the end of 2026.
A possible second phase (2027) may further develop the results.

Working Format

  • Duration: approx. 7 months
  • Fully online
  • Monthly online check-ins (1–1.5h)
  • Shared digital workspace
  • Individual flexible work

Estimated workload: Approx. 6–8 hours per month per participant

Methodology

Simple Quantitative Mapping Model

The LAB follows a practical methodology designed for cultural professionals without requiring academic research expertise.

Step 1 – Defining the Framework
  • Introduction to the LAB and tools
  • Agreement on scope and priorities
  • Distribution of countries / areas
Step 2 – Ecosystem Pre-Mapping  (Desk Research).
  • Identify key organisations (Identify early music festivals, institutions, ensembles, conservatories and networks.)
  • Classify them by country and type.
  • Build a shared contact database
  • Use simple templates provided
Step 3 – Online Survey
  • Adapt and launch a shared questionnaire
  • Distribute it within your network and region
  • Collect structured data

The survey will collect data on:

  • Organisational profile.
  • Programming volume.
  • International collaboration experience.
  • Touring conditions.
  • Interest in regional circuits.
  • Sustainability practices.
Step 4 – First Analysis
  • Identify patterns and key insights
  • Highlight potential countries / organisations of interest
  • Map potential touring corridors.
  • Detect institutions suitable as network anchors.
Step 5 – Final Sharing (End of 2026)

Objective: Transform data into actionable strategy.

  • Preparation of a short collective report
  • Online presentation of main findings
  • Structured contact database
