Ensemble Sanguineus

Ensemble Sanguineus brings together four musicians who have been playing together in the young and distinctive Polish baroque orchestra Cornu Copiae for several years.

Sharing a great passion for the Sturm und Drang movement, they decided to work together focusing on this vivid and polarizing period that pushed the boundaries in the history of music, art and literature.

Owing to the wide range of instruments they play, from harpsichord, pianoforte, violin, viola, cello, to historical recorders and flute, they are able to cross the limits of repertoire.

The name of the ensemble comes from the C.P.E. Bach’s Sonata “Sanguineus und Melancholicus”, describing the opposite types of human characters. “Sanguineus” was described in “The Heidelberg Book of Fate” (Regensburg, after 1491) as “passional type, predominant humor blood, predominant temperament hot-wet, element air”.

Ensemble Sanguineus was the finalist of Rheinsberger Hofkapelle in Germany in 2023.
