Repicco

Repicco

Repicco was formed by the violinist Kinga Ujszàszi and the lutenist and guitarist Jadran Duncumb.

Growing up in Hungary and Norway respectively, neither Kinga Ujszászi nor Jadran Duncumb ever imagined they would end up performing seventeenth-century Italian music for violin and theorbo together. Jadran only really considered becoming a musician during his mid-teens when he gained some success in competitions on the guitar, finally making up his mind after reaching the final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition. He set off to study in London after completing school.
Being born to musician parents, Kinga’s path was mostly clearer  and she quickly became proficient on both piano and violin, studying the latter at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest before receiving a scholarship for a Masters degree at the Royal Academy of Music.

It was in London that the two met and started to play together in the duo they eventually named ‘Repicco’, after a strumming technique on the Baroque guitar. While studying the guitar, Jadran was educe d by the vast and beautiful repertory of Baroque chamber music for theorbo and lute, which he went on to study as a postgraduate with Rolf Lislevand at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen. Kinga too was conscripted into the historical performance movement at the Royal Academy.
The duo reached the finals o f the York Early Music Competition in 2013, garnering praise and conc ert  invitations for their performance. Then, in 2015, the two young musicians were unanimously applauded and won the audience prize at the eeemerging Festival at Ambronay. The latter success has enabled them to launch a performing career all over Europe.

Repicco has been part of the eeemerging programme from 2015 to 2018. Within the eeemerging programme, the ensemble benefited from residencies at the Göttingen International Handel Festival (Germany) and Ambronay Cultural Encounter Centre (France) and performed in the Ambronay Festival in 2016 and 2017.

As the ensemble was selected for a third year of support, he recorded a CD untitled  Assassini, assassinati released on the 30th of October 2017 for Ambronay Éditions.
